Taking care of your teeth and mouth is important. We need a healthy mouth to speak, smile, breathe properly, and eat and drink. Did you know that a healthy mouth also protects us from infections and disease?
Plaque is a sticky bacteria that builds up on teeth. If plaque is not removed by brushing it can build up on your teeth and lead to gum disease. Bacteria that causes gum disease can travel to other parts of your body through your blood and cause other serious diseases such as:
- Heart disease
- Lung Disease
If you are pregnant and have gum disease, the bacteria can cause your baby to be born too early and/or too small.
