Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer diagnosed in women in Ontario.
- In 2010, it is estimated 8,900 Ontario women will develop breast cancer and about 2,100 women will die from the disease. In Elgin, about 5o women are newly diagnosed with breast cancer each year and about 16 die of the disease.
- Over 80% of breast cancers occur in women 50 years of age and older. Your cancer risk increases with age.
- Most women diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease.
