Cannabis refers to the whole plant (Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica), and the substances extracted from it. Marijuana is used by many to refer to the dried leaves and flowering tops of the plant.
At a certain stage in the growth of the plant, before the flowers are mature, they become coated with a sticky resin. This resin can be extracted to make hash and hash oil and other concentrates.
