Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a disease caused by a germ that enters the body through the air you breathe and causes an infection. Often people have an infection caused by the germ but do not develop the disease.

Elgin St. Thomas Public Health's goal is to reduce the incidence of TB in our community by:

  • Providing education about TB prevention and control
  • Enforcing legislation designed to reduce the spread of TB
  • Monitor the rates of TB in our community
  • Screen for TB and contact-tracing
  • Distribute free medication for TB and patients follow-up
