Green workplaces are healthier workplaces! When an employer provides bicycle racks allowing employees to ride their bikes to work, employees gain opportunities for physical activity and fossil fuel emissions are decreased. This becomes a win-win situation for employers, employees and the environment.
Employers can start greening their workplaces by identifying areas in their organizations where changes can be made. Conducting a green workplace audit is one method of identifying areas for such initiatives. Your workplace wellness committee could take on this responsibility or a “green committee” may be formed. The committee should consist of representatives from both management and employees. Areas the committee might consider are: energy and water conservation, recycling, workplace gardens and waste management. Other Website Links: Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety
Environmentally friendly activities, along with being good for the environment, also aid in the attracting and retaining of employees. Therefore, do not delay, start greening your workplace today.
