Community Partners

Condoms are available free of charge from Elgin St. Thomas Public Health during regular drop-in hours. We also offer FREE condoms to other agencies and health care practitioners. If you would like a small supply for your office or clinic, please call us at 519-631-9900, Ext. 1216.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

The Sexual Health program at Elgin St. Thomas Public Health provides prevention, control and community surveillance of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) including blood-borne infections (BBIs) under the authority of the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA). If one of your patient’s tests positive for a reportable infection, a Public Health Nurse will contact your office to ensure the patient is aware of the diagnosis and has been ordered treatment that corresponds to the recommendations outlined in the Canadian Guidelines on Sexually Transmitted Infections. Following this, the Public Health Nurse will contact the patient directly to ensure contact tracing and follow-up is initiated.

Contraception

The Sexual Health program at Elgin St. Thomas Public Health provides lower cost contraceptive options for young women under the age of 25. Available options include oral contraceptive pills, transdermal patches or vaginal rings. The Public Health Nurses are not able to prescribe or administer Depo Provera.

The Emergency Contraceptive Pill known as Plan B is available to women of childbearing age for a reduced fee of $10.00.
