Infectious Diseases

Infectious diseases have plagued humans throughout history and have even shaped history. They are the second leading cause of death in the world and are a main cause of illness and hospitalization in the community.

Elgin St. Thomas Public Health works to reduce the spread of infectious diseases by:
  • monitoring and following up cases of reportable diseases
  • monitoring and responding to outbreaks of infectious diseases in both the community and health care settings
  • providing education to health care worker's, daycares, schools, community agencies, and the public
